We're so excited to welcome Hysj to the KOSO family and with the release of their first single "Asfalt", following three promising shows in Oslo in under two weeks, PLUS the forthcoming "Blokers" EP, we thought it was about time to have a digital sit-down with your new favorite band.

1. Asfalt, your first single on KOSO - can you tell us a bit about how it came about and what it was inspired by?
All of our songs just kinda happen, with a lot of trial and error and tweaking until we stop and say: “Hey! This is cool!” Honestly, this song started with us wanting to make a song that sounded like Drake. We made a One Dance-style drum beat and then just played around with the chords and melody, until something clicked.

2. The song is the first single from upcoming EP "Blokers" - what can we expect from the EP?
We have a rather specific sound, it’s cold and mechanic, but at the same time human. These songs are us experimenting with mixing different genres and styles, to figure out how far we can take our songs while keeping the arctic melancholy mood. There’s quite a few different grooves and tempos, with our love of hip hop claiming a larger part of our approach.

3. You've put together a playlist for us to keep us warm and groovy while waiting on the next single, can you tell us about the selection?

We tried to select songs that inspire us, both lyrically, melodically, and sonically. Some of the songs are dark and brooding, some are abrasive and loud, some have swagger, some are rigid, all are good!

4. Bylarm is coming up with your first gig tonight - what are you guys doing live? What kind of show can the Bylarm audience expect?
As we both have played a lot of gigs with both this and other bands, being on stage really isn’t something we put that much thought into. It happens organically, we both get more or less possessed by the music and just let our bodies talk for us. What we do think a lot about is the visual presentation, we want our live shows to be more than just a band playing songs on stage. The visuals need to match the music and the music support the visuals.

5. If you could describe your music as an animal, which one would it be?
Probably a badger. It’s small and furry, with the cool and fashionable black and white suit, but it also has a short temper and is absolutely fearless and if you come too close it’ll bite your face off!

Cute... Now keep up with Hysj everywhere: facebook, twitter, instagram, soundcloud

 Small, cool, fashionable, fierce.
